What Qualifications Should a Support Worker Have?
We believe that having the right support worker can make a big difference in your life at Assist Disability Support. We carefully select our team to make sure they are not only qualified but also kind, professional, and respectful of your needs.
We also have a multilingual team who can speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Italian, and English, making our services accessible to people from diverse backgrounds.
Do Support Workers Need Formal Qualifications?
In Australia, support workers don’t legally need formal qualifications. However, at Assist Disability Support, we hold our team to the highest standards. All our support workers are subjected to qualification requirements and undergo safety background checks as well as thorough training. Many of our support workers also have qualifications like:
Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Aged Care, Disabilities, or Home and Community Care.
Degrees in Nursing or Allied Health.
Relevant experience of two or more years in similar roles.
While not all tasks require formal qualifications, we make sure that every support worker is fully prepared for their role and trained to provide excellent care.
Safety and Background Checks
Your safety is our priority. That’s why all our staff undergo rigorous checks, including:
Police Checks
NDIS Worker Screening Checks
NDIS Working with Children Checks
These checks ensure that our team members are suitable for working with people with disabilities.
Training and Skills
Our team receives extensive training to ensure they provide the best possible support. This includes:
Personalised training by our directors in behaviour support and NDIS standards.
Expertise in following Behaviour Support Plans (BSP).
Certifications in CPR and First Aid.
Completion of Behavioural Training and Incidents and Complaints Management Training.
We are committed to helping you achieve your goals by providing personalised, high-quality support.
Experience Matters
Qualifications are important, but experience is just as valuable. We match you with support workers who have relevant experience, such as:
Helping with home tasks like cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and organising.
Supporting hobbies like gardening or other activities you enjoy.
Assisting with personal care or specialised tasks, such as medication assistance or nursing care.
Whatever your needs, we ensure that your support worker is skilled and capable of providing the right help.
